Luxury brands outlet bargains shopping

Bicester Village in Bicester, England, is one of the most renowned designer outlet shopping centers in the UK and is a key part of the so-called Bicester Collection, a group of luxury shopping destinations worldwide. Located in the picturesque Oxfordshire countryside, about an hour from London, it opened in 1995. Since then, it has developed into one of the leading destinations for bargain hunters and luxury brand enthusiasts, attracting millions of visitors annually, including many international tourists, particularly from China – it is considered the second most popular travel destination for Chinese visitors in the UK, right after Buckingham Palace.

Bicester Village transportation from London

Bicester Village spans approximately 32,500 square meters and is home to over 150 boutiques offering an impressive selection of world-famous fashion and lifestyle brands. Notable names include luxury labels such as Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen, as well as other renowned brands like The White Company, Tory Burch, Under Armour, and Polo Ralph Lauren. The products, often from pre-seasons or surplus stock, are offered year-round at reduced prices, with discounts of up to 60 percent or more off regular retail prices being common. This pricing strategy makes the Village particularly appealing to fashion-conscious shoppers seeking high-quality items at more affordable prices.

Best restaurants at Bicester Village

The design of the shopping center is unique and distinguishes it from typical enclosed shopping malls. It was conceived as an open "village," featuring cobbled paths, pastel-colored facades, and lush greenery reminiscent of an American colonial town or an English garden. This architecture, combined with a relaxed atmosphere, invites not only shopping but also lingering. The design was intentionally chosen to create an experience that goes beyond mere shopping – an aspect that is strongly emphasized by the operators, Value Retail. The company, founded by American Scott Malkin, operates several such "villages" worldwide and focuses on positioning these locations as high-experience travel destinations.

Experience shopping in Bicester Village

In addition to shopping, Bicester Village offers a diverse culinary experience. Visitors can choose from various restaurants and cafés, including upscale options like Café Wolseley, known for its elegant British cuisine, or the farmshop restaurant & café by Soho House & Co., which serves fresh, seasonal dishes. Other offerings like Ottolenghi and Cecconi’s add to the selection, providing both quick snacks and relaxed meals. These culinary options help ensure that a visit to the Village becomes a day out that extends far beyond shopping.

Bicester Village parking and access

The center's infrastructure is designed for comfort and accessibility. It features more than 2,500 free parking spaces, making it particularly attractive for drivers. Additionally, it is well-connected to public transport: a direct train service from London Marylebone station takes about 46 minutes to reach the dedicated "Bicester Village" station, located just a short walk from the entrance. There is also a Shopping Express, a luxury bus service that operates from various points in London directly to the Village, as well as local bus connections from Oxford. This accessibility has significantly contributed to the center's success, as it is conveniently reachable for day visitors from London and travelers from further afield.

Over the years, Bicester Village has been expanded multiple times to meet growing demand. A significant expansion occurred in 2017, adding 30 new boutiques and additional parking, which created approximately 3,500 new jobs in the region. This development underscores the economic significance of the center for Bicester and Oxfordshire. From the tenants' perspective, it is regarded as one of the most profitable outlet centers in Europe, attributed to the high visitor numbers and strong brand presence.

The Village also offers numerous services that enhance the shopping experience. These include a multilingual concierge service, personal shopping where visitors can receive professional styling advice, and a "Hands-free Shopping" service that delivers purchased items directly to customers' cars or a collection point. These extras cater particularly to international guests and emphasize the center's luxurious appeal.

Despite its success, there are also critical voices. Some accuse Bicester Village of losing its original character as a local shopping destination due to its strong tourist orientation and the presence of international luxury brands. Additionally, there is debate about whether the discounts are genuinely as appealing as advertised, as some products are specifically produced for outlets and may not always be comparable to those in main stores. Nevertheless, the center remains a magnet for fashion-conscious visitors and a prime example of the connection between luxury, accessibility, and experience.

If you love a £5000 handbag and a £26000 watch and don't like food this is the place to shop. I got my mother some smellies and it was cheaper than Boots.

The place is good and there are some useful shops. However under no circumstances will I be travelling to Bicester village or recommending visiting to anyone again. The arrogance of the other shoppers was palpable - I have never in my life been barged past (or in to) with such disregard by so many men in such a short space of time. With elbows!!! These men give no warning, no eye contact prior, no apologies afterwards - they walk through you like you don't exist. Why these rude men gather here in such concentrated numbers is beyond me, maybe this is what rich men are like? Maybe this is where they like to be. Whatever the reason, Bicester village is not a place for civilized people looking for a relaxing day out.

I'm probably not a fair representation of who this place is for as someone who hates shopping. But got a pair of cheap vans and some jeans #bargins

This is probably the worst outlet village i have ever visited. We all know is catered for the tourist but it should really try and get more middle class brands and not places that wanted over £500 for a thin coat
